FIBERGLASS AND MEGAPIXELS was produced and directed by brothers Derek Hoffmann and Craig Hoffmann.  Derek and Craig were both born and raised on the east side of Oahu, Hawaii near Sandy Beach. It was at Sandy Beach that they developed a love for the ocean and were captivated by the
unique sensation and visions of the tube.




Derek HoffmannDerek Hoffmann:
Since 1985 Derek has been behind the camera lens.  He started as a photographer shooting photos for Surfing Magazine and Body Boarding Magazine. In 1987, with an 8mm video camera and custom water housing, he began to develop his skills as a water cinematographer at Sandy Beach and along the North Shore of Oahu.

In 1992 Derek began working with Sonny Miller and Rip Curl on The Search films as the water specialist traveling the world and filming in 16mm film. Derek has filmed some of the most amazing surf sessions
of all time with the legendary Tom Curren.  (these include Tom surfing his Fish surfboard in Indonesia, the amazing waves in Mozambique and Jeffrey's Bay, South Africa). Derek co-produced Blast Off Phase 3 with Filmmaker Chris Bystrom in 1993. He co-produced the surfing film Fluid Combustion in 1995. His footage is featured in over 50 films and many commercials.


Derek is a member of the International Cinematographers Guild IATSE Local 600.
He has been a camera operator for reality television programs for the past 10 years and some of his credits include: The Apprentice, Celebrity Apprentice, The Ultimate Fighter, Surf Girls, The Simple Life and Boarding House North Shore.


 


Craig Hoffmann:

Craig holds a BA from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in Communication: Video Production, and also a Masters Degree from Regent University in Communication: Cinema/Television Directing and Editing. He is a member of the Film/TV Union IATSE Local 665- Hawaii and has worked on set in many departments over the years.
